Day 1
North Atlantic pearls - Day 1
Saturday

A day on your own to explore the vibrant capital of Reykjavík.
Time to investigate the shopping street Laugavegur, where you will find many exciting shops. Make time to see the Hallgrímskirkja, which was inspired by Iceland’s volcanic rock formations and is visible from almost everywhere in the town, the top of the tower gives the best view in town.

Harpa, the new concert hall, is situated on the waterfront and was inspired by the northern lights and the dramatic Icelandic nature. In the evening, the building is a large luminous sculpture.

If there is time, then head to the old harbour where you will find the flea-market Kolaportid, for vintage clothes, vinyl records, the usual bric-a-brac and last but not least, some Icelandic delicacies. If you fancy a good cup of coffee then go to Kaffibarrin.

It is possible to purchase additional excursions such as:

  • Whale safari: You can expect to see Minke Whales, Harbour Porpoises, White-beaked Dolphins and Humpback Whales.
  • Visit the Blue Lagoon: Now you can relax and enjoy the warm water, which is salty and rich in minerals.
  • Riding an Icelandic horse: You will be riding on easy bridleways through brush hills and mossy lava fields. Take a moment to note the many different formations created over the centuries.

Spend the night in Reykjavík.

Iceland’s beautiful south coast with waterfalls and Jokulsárlón.

Discover natural treasures such as, the iconic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, Skaftafell National Park, Vatnajokull glacier and see floating icebergs and other large blocks of ice. This ice comes from the Vatnajokull glacier and flows continuously out into the cold lagoon on its way to the sea. Time to reflect about the amazing events of the day as you return to Reykjavík.
