Photo Safari

Due to the position of the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, the islands are characterized by changeable weather, as it is quite possible to experience all four seasons in one day. The unpredictable weather creates a magical and dramatic light, which in turn creates the most amazing motifs for a fantastic photo tour to the Faroe Islands.

  • TRAVEL: Available every day in the week - 7 days | 6 nights.
  • SEASON: June, July and August 2022
  • DIRECT FLIGHT FROM: Copenhagen (incl. in the price)

Itinerary: Fly and Drive

DAY 1: Arrival to the Faroe Islands. Island Vágar and the villages Bøur and Gásadalur.
There are few airports in the world, which offer such impressive vistas to the arriving visitor. These panoramas, however, provide only a hint of what visitors will soon discover on their exploration of the Faroe Islands.

Arrival in the Faroe Islands. Pick up rental car at the airport. Drive to the nearby accommodation for check in. Explore the island of Vágar by visiting the villages of Bøur and Gásadalur with fantastic view to Tindholmur and to the island of Mykines. The nature scenery is breathtaking.

Spend the night on Vágar.

DAY 2: The island of Mykines - Scenary is set for some fantastic pictures.
Day trip to the island of Mykines – the bird island. Drive to the harbour of Sørvágur, where the boat to Mykines departs.

Take the ferry to Mykines. With guide explore the idyllic village of Mykines and enjoy the fantastic nature surrounding you. The scenary is set for some fantastic pictures. In the village it is possible to have coffee at one of the cafées before returning with the ferry to the mainland.

Spend the night on Vágar.

DAY 3: The island Eysturoy, a day of many photo stops along the way.
Enjoy the day by driving to the beautifully located villages and take some wonderful photos. The picturesque village of Saksun was at one time a protected natural harbour, but today the entry to the harbour has silted up. Continue to Tjørnuvík, surrounded by steep mountains.

From here, you will be able to see the unique rock formations, known as ‘The Giant and the Old Hag’. Drive over the bridge that connects Streymoy and Eysturoy towards the village of Eiði, where there is a view of Slættaratindur, the Faroe Island’s highest mountain. The exceptional scenery continues as you drive to Gjógv to see the distinctive natural harbour. A day with countless photo stops en route.

Spend the night on Eysturoy.

Picture: Village of Gjógv

DAY 4: Northern Islands offers dramatic landscapes and the Seal Woman.
Drive from Leirvík through the sub sea tunnel to Klaksvík. The tunnel is decorated with ‘light’ art by the well-known Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson. It is easy to explore the other Northern Isles from Klaksvík, each with its own dramatic landscape. If you want to see and take a picture of the beautiful sculpture from the legend of the Seal Woman, you have to take the ferry from Klaksvík to the nearby island of Kalsoy.

Spend the night on Eysturoy.

DAY 5: Skálafjørðin and photo stop at Eystnes.
Take a walk along one of the paths at Toftavatn, which is a popular getaway for the locals. Afterwards drive around the lake towards the village of Nes and onto Eystnes where the windmills are. There is an historical rectory in the village of Nes which is now a town museum and well worth a visit. Shopping could also be on the agenda – visit the shop Navia that has a wide range of Faroese yarn and woollens, and the shop selling local handicraft and Faroese designed products.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

DAY 6: The capital offers different and fun motifs.
Start the day by discovering Tórshavn with a walk through the old town, Tinganes and the charming area called Reyn with its small black houses and grass roofs. Visit the Nordic House, an architectural gem that hosts many local and international events.

In the afternoon, we recommend a drive to Kirkjubøur, the ancient cultural centre.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

DAY 7: Departure from the Faroe Islands.
If you have the time, we recommend on route to the airport, that you go on the exhilarating and fascinating two-hour boat trip to the Vestmanna sea cliffs, sailing between the cliffs and into the grottoes.

Continue onto the airport and deliver the hire car. Departure with Atlantic Airways.
