Itinerary: Fly and Drive

DAY 1: Arrival to the Faroe Islands. Explore the island of Vágar.
Arrival to the Faroe Islands. Pick up your hire car at the airport and enjoy the rest of the day on Vágar island.

Drive to the village of Gásadalur, walk along the marked path, enjoy the impressive view of Tindhólm, and do not miss the attractive waterfall that runs down into the sea.

Spend the night on Vágar.

DAY 2: The island of Mykines - A gem in the North Atlantic.
We suggest a *day trip to the bird island of Mykines. The tour begins from the harbour in Sørvágur where you park your car. Enjoy an impressive sailing trip alongside the majestic sea cliffs.

On the island you will see the charming puffins with their colourful red beaks and the striking gannets that only breed on Mykines holm. On your return to Sørvágur, pick up the car and drive to Tórshavn.
*Day trip to the island of Mykines is very popular and must be booked in advance.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

DAY 3:
Island of Suðuroy - Lighthouse at Akraberg.
Take the ferry from Tórshavn to the island of Suðuroy. The nature on Suðuroy varies from that further north and is particularly well suited to hiking.

We recommend visiting the lighthouse at Akraberg on the southernmost tip of the island and also Beinisvørð, to enjoy the magnificent panorama that unfolds when you get to the top. The village of Famjin, situated in beautiful and dramatic surroundings, is also well worth a visit. The original Faroese flag hangs in the church. In Tvøroyri you can see some of the historic buildings used by the Danish Royal Monopoly Store.

Spend the night on Suðuroy.

DAY 4: Explore Tórshavn and the historical and cultural centre, Kirkjubøur.
Return to Tórshavn with the ferry. Walk through the old town and soak up the atmosphere of the small houses with their white window frames and grass roofs. The old town is unique, not only in the Faroes but in the entire world. Please respect the privacy of the people living in these historical houses

We recommend a visit to Kirkjubøur which is the historical and cultural centre of the country. Back in Tórshavn you will find many different restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy excellent food.

Spend the night in Tórshavn.

DAY 5: Fantastic viewpoints, rock formations and small colorful villages.
Drive across Streymoy passing the old whaling station Við Áir and on over the bridge to the island of Eysturoy. Continue towards the village of Eiði as you take the panoramic route to Gjógv. See the impressive rock formations called Risin and Kellingin and the highest mountain, Slættaratindur at 882m. Explore the village of Gjógv, famous for its natural harbour.

Drive from Leirvík through the subsea tunnel to Klaksvík. The tunnel is decorated with ‘light’ art by the well-known Faroese artist, Tróndur Patursson. It is easy to explore the other Northern Isles from Klaksvík, each with its own dramatic landscape. For example visit the island of Viðoy which is the northernmost island of the Faroes. Viðoy has two villages – Viðareiði to the north and Hvannasund to the south.

While staying in Klaksvík, we recommend exploring the area with a self-guided tour. For more information and price, feel free to contact us.

Spend the night on the Northern Isles.

DAY 6: Departure from the Faroe Islands.
On the way to the airport, we recommend that you take the fascinating two hour boat trip to the Vestmanna bird cliffs, sailing between the cliffs and into the grottoes.

Take time to visit the unique Saga Museum which describes the Faroese history from the Viking Ages.

Continue onto the airport and deliver the hire car. Departure with Atlantic Airways.
