The Journey takes us by bus to the village of Vestmanna. Where the magnificent boat trip to the Vestmannabjørgini and grottoes, are waiting for us. On the boat you experience narrow straits, deep grottoes and almost 700-metre high cliffs soaring up from the ocean. These cliffs and caves provide safe nesting places for thousands of sea birds such as puffins, fulmars, guillemots and razorbills. In the past and also to some degree today locals would climb down the cliffs to collect bird eggs, which are considered a delicacy by the Faroese.

A04 Explore Saksun

Saksun is a picturesque village at the bottom of what was once an inlet surrounded by steep mountains. The inlet formed a deep tranquil natural harbour. However, a storm blocked it with sand and created the lake you will see below the village instead of the old inlet.

You will visit the farm Dúvugarður, which predates the 17th century and offers a glimpse of how the Faroese lived in the old days. Before leaving you will also see the Saksun church built in 1858.

Our next stop will be Hvalvík village. The name means‘whale bay’ and is located in a valley on Streymoy’s east coast.

On the way back, we will take the high mountain road Oyggjarvegurin for incomparable views.

A05 Bus tour to Gásadalur

Gásadalur is home to the beautiful and famous waterfall Múlafossur. Múlafossur is a must see, and one of the biggest tourist attraction on the Faroe Island, and to good reason, the view on Gásadalur and Múlafossur is spectacular: the waterfall that just falls off the island.

The village of Gásadalur, surrounded by the highest mountains on Vágar, enjoys a panoramic view over the isle of Mykines. Until recently, the village of Gásadalur was the only village on the Faroe Islands without road connection to other villages. The path over the mountain, where the post was carried three times a week, was the only connection to the outside world. Now a tunnel breaks the isolation, but the cozy atmosphere of the village is still intact.

On the way to Gásadalur we make a stop in the village Bøur, where we walk through the village. From Bø there is a great view of the uninhabited islet Tindhólmur with the five peaks and Drangarnir, the sea stacks. After the stop in Bøur we will continue to Gásadalur, where a light meal with coffee/tea and cake awaits in the cosy Gásadalsgarður Guesthouse.

On the way back to Tórshavn there will be a stop, where you will be able to take some pictures of the unspoiled nature of the Faroe Islands.
