Bike holiday in the Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands is the perfect place to challenge yourself on bike and at the same time bring many experiences back with you in the luggage. This bike holiday itinerary has suggestions for different routes, which take you to some of the most unique places in the Faroe Islands. Enjoy some lovely days with lots of fresh air, amazing views and experiences you'll never forget.

  • START DAY: Your choice - 7 days | 6 nights
  • SEASON: All year 2024
  • DIRECT FLIGHT FROM: Copenhagen (incl. in the price)

Suggested Itinerary: On your own by bike - 227 km+

Day 1: Arrival with Atlantic Airways. Transfer from the airport to your hotel in Tórshavn. Enjoy the rest of the day in Tórshavn.

Day 2: You pick up your bike from the local bike hire company and we suggest following bike tour: Tórshavn - Kirkjubø - (Velbastaður/Syðradal) - Tórshavn.

Kirkjubøur is the Faroe Islands’ historical and cultural center. Here lies the picturesque farm, where the present farmer is 17. Generation in the row. See the incomplete St. Magnus Cathedral, the small church of Olav from the Middle Ages.

Extend the trip by continuing from Velbastaður to the beautiful valley, Syðradal, where there is a large farm, before returning to Tórshavn (+26 kilometers).

  • A trip of approx. 30 kilometers (or + 26 kilometers)

Day 3: Today's bike ride is following the old road out of Tórshavn - Oyggjarvegur. Enjoy the great view both when biking north and back to Tórshavn. We suggest biking to Norðadalsskarð, 225m above sea level, to enjoy the scenic view of the island of Koltur. (27 kilometers)

You can choose to continue to Norðadalur and experience real Faroese hairpin turns (increase of 19%) (+7 kilometers). Or you can choose to cycle from Norðadalsskarð up to Sornfelli before returning to Torshavn (+16 kilometres). Sornfelli is 749m high mountain north of Tórshavn. There is the former military radar station and a meteorological station.

The view over the islands is fantastic. In the summer, it's a great place to watch the sunset. This is a day of great altitude difference.

  • A trip of approx. 27 kilometers (+7 / +16 kilometers)

Day 4: Visit Saksun, which is an idyllic village situated picturesquely at the bottom of a narrow fjord with high mountains on both sides.
Take the local bus from Tórshavn and get off in the village of Streymnes, where the bikes are ready for you at the busstop.

From Streymnes you bike through the valley to the village of Saksun. You bike back to Tórshavn along the coastal road where you bike through the tunnel at Kollafjørður.

  • Approx. 61 kilometers

Day 5:
Today's trip has relatively few climbs and you can enjoy today's trip via Skálafjørðin to the village of Selatrað.
You take the local bus from Tórshavn to Runavík. The bikes are ready for you at Hotel Runavík. You bike along Skálafjørðin via Strendur to Selatrað. You pass small charming settlements and have beautiful views all the way. From Strendur you take the local bus back to Tórshavn. You park the bikes at the bus stop.

  • A trip of approx. 37 kilometers

Day 6:
The final tour is the bike ride to Tjørnuvík and Eiði. Tjørnuvík is sheltered by the mountains with a unique view of the impressive rock formations the Giant and the Witch. You bike past the beautiful Fossá waterfall - a nice photo stop!

Eiði is located at the foot of the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur. The high mountains give the area a lot of mystery, but not least unimaginable beauty.
You take the local bus from Tórshavn to and from Oyrabakka. The bikes are ready for you when you get off at the busstop. You bike across the bridge and on to Tjørnuvík and back to the bridge and to Eiði.

Back at Oyrabakka, you park the bikes and take the local bus back to Tórshavn. If you need more kilometers in your legs, we suggest that you cycle back to Tórshavn along the coastal road (+ 40 kilometers). Upon arrival in Tórshavn, the bicycles returned.

  • A trip of approx. 72 kilometers (+40 kilometers)

Day 7: Transfer from Tórshavn to the airport and departure with Atlantic Airways.
